What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at Bridges to Independence?
Bridges to Independence is actively seeking dynamic, patient, and compassionate individuals to join our Youth Summer Camp team in the capacity of Camp Counselors. Our camp caters to children between the ages of five and twelve, offering a nurturing and enjoyable environment that fosters learning, creativity, and friendship. This presents a remarkable opportunity to create a lasting impact while acquiring practical experience in youth development.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage with campers aged 5–12 during both structured and free play activities.
- Lead or assist with games, arts and crafts, creating products for sale, storytelling, indoor/outdoor play, and field trips.
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive camp environment.
- Support children in following routines and developing positive social skills.
- Communicate effectively with co-staff and guardians as needed.
- Assist with daily setup, cleanup, and transitions between activities.
- Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Set-up/training required the week of June 30–July 2, 2026
- Camp runs July 7 – August 7
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older
- Experience working with children ages 5–12 preferred
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and dependable
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Must be able to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Must pass background check
- Adult and Child CPR & First Aid Certified
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and critical thinking skills.
- Exposure to emotionally challenging situations requires patience and resilience.
- May require lifting up to 25 lbs., standing for extended periods, and engaging in recreational activities with youth.
