What are the responsibilities and job description for the Afterschool Assistant / Teacher position at Bridges After School Program?

Central Vermont Supervisory Union (CVSU) Afterschool is the collective name for the afterschool programs at Northfield Elementary School, Northfield Middle High School, Williamstown Elementary School, Williamstown Middle High School, Washington Village School, and Orange Center School. Our programs are hiring Program Assistants and Teachers to support our mission of providing year-round enrichment programs for elementary and middle school students. This includes afternoon activities which students can sign up for and participate in for 7 to 8 week sessions. Program options vary and may include Outdoor Learning, Physical Education, Arts and Crafts and more. We are looking for candidates that have a passion for working with young people in their community and being a positive role model.
The ideal candidate should have the following knowledge and skills:
- Experience working with school-aged children
- Comfortable with leading activities and managing student behaviors as needed
- Willingness to work closely with other staff
- Communicative with the Site Coordinator and other after school admin
- Flexibility in handling any situations that may arise
- Must be able to commit to a schedule for the 7 to 8 week duration of a session
- Must be available from 2:45/3:00-5:00 on days scheduled
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Program Assistant
- Ensure a safe and engaging learning environment for students
- Monitor students during arrival/dismissal, snack, recess, and enrichment programs
- Provide student behavior management support as needed
- Support Facilitators during enrichment programs with student attendance and participation, project materials, and classroom organization
- Understand and implement safety protocols
- Assess and administer basic first-aid
- Complete all other tasks as required
Program Facilitator
- Ensure a safe, dynamic, and engaging learning environment for students
- Plan and submit enrichment programs that identify learning goals, activities, and materials to be delivered to approximately 10-20 students once a week over the course of the 7 to 8 week session
- Communicate with Program Assistant regarding need for support with student attendance and participation, project materials, and classroom organization
- Identify opportunities to showcase student work and learning in collaboration with Site Coordinator
- Provide student behavior management support as needed
- Understand and implement safety protocols
- Assess and administer basic first-aid
- Complete all other tasks as required
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
