Reports to:  Superintendent

Nature of Position:

• Is responsible to the superintendent and the board.

• Is a member of the District’s Food Personnel Staff

• Plans, prepares, serves and manages kitchen and personnel, and cleans up after serving a breakfast and lunch and prepares an after school snack.

• Is contracted for all instructional days plus 2 days to prepare for the school year and to cook for staff during PIR days.

• Typical work day begins at 5:30 a.m. and is done after cleaning is complete.

Only minimum duties are listed.  Other functions may be required as given or assigned by the Administration.

Essential Functions:

1. Plans and directs the preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria.
2. Responsible for securing food, supplies, and revenues.
3. Supervises and participates in the preparation and service of food, advertises the monthly menu, and is responsible for portion control per federal guidelines.
4. Supervises kitchen personnel in the safe and proper use of kitchen equipment.
5. Trains new kitchen helpers.
6. Ensures that all equipment in the cafeteria is clean, sanitized, and in safe working condition and notifies the administration when repairs are needed or if there are safety concerns.
7. Assists in planning work schedules of kitchen helpers.
8. Responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen and cafeteria.
9. Oversees and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen and related areas.
10. Responsible for receipt of food shipments to school.
11. Responsible for monitoring students and staff with food allergies while providing healthy and appropriate alternatives
12. Works with the Clerk to ensure state reporting is complete and submitted to necessary authorities. 

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

1. Responsible for becoming Serve Safe certified.
2. High School Diplomas or GED.
3. Previous experience with quantity food preparation and service.
4. Able to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationship with students, staff, and the community.
5. Able to express himself/herself clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication.
6. Able to perform duties with an awareness of all District requirements and Board Policies.
7. Ability to handle stressful situations.
8. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
9. Per District Policy, this position requires First Aid Certification.

Equipment Used:

Calculator, cash register, copy machine, fax machine, telephone/voicemail, oven dishwasher, and other kitchen equipment.

Work Environment:

The employee constantly works around others, works with the public, and works inside.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.  The employee has a greater than average risk of getting a minor injury such as a cut or burn while performing the duties of this job.  The employee occasionally will be working in temperatures about 100 degrees and will be walking on slippery surfaces.

Physical Demands:

The employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and waist while performing the duties of this position.  The employee will occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.

Mental/Motor Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee exercise flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are infrequently available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communication.  Memory, reasoning, and exercising judgment are constantly used/required on the job. Mathematics, estimating, and problem solving are frequently used/required on the job.
