Senior Staff Network Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a senior-level network architect and engineer to help design, deploy, modernize, and support a global enterprise network spanning corporate offices, manufacturing sites, data centers, labs, wireless environments, and cloud connectivity. The role is approximately 60% architecture and engineering and 40% hands-on technical leadership, including complex troubleshooting, escalation support, operational reviews, and mentoring.

The first 6-12 months will focus on enterprise SD-WAN and WAN modernization; data center, campus, manufacturing, and cloud network transformation; and network automation using Ansible, Git, APIs, source-of-truth platforms, and Infrastructure as Code practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, deploy, optimize, and troubleshoot global network infrastructure for corporate and manufacturing locations, with a focus on performance, resiliency, and availability.
• Lead enterprise SD-WAN and WAN modernization, including DIA, cloud connectivity, resiliency improvements, and integration across offices, data centers, labs, and manufacturing sites.
• Own network transformation initiatives involving routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, segmentation, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Serve as the senior escalation point for complex issues involving BGP, OSPF, SD-WAN, VLANs, Spanning Tree, EtherChannel, QoS, IPSec, NAT, wireless, DNS, DHCP, and network security.
• Develop and improve network automation for configuration deployment, backups, compliance validation, monitoring, DNS/IPAM workflows, lifecycle management, and source-of-truth integrations.
• Partner with IT leadership, architecture, operations, security, vendors, service providers, and business stakeholders to define requirements and deliver solutions.
• Create and maintain architecture documents, network configurations, runbooks, remote-hands instructions, assessment reports, and handover documentation.
• Lead multi-quarter projects and maintenance-window activities while mentoring deployment and operations engineers.
• Monitor service performance, respond to incidents and service requests within SLA expectations, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Adjust working hours when needed to support global projects, cross-time-zone collaboration, and planned changes.

Required Experience

• 12 years of professional network architecture and engineering experience across routing, switching, wireless, and network security.
• Deep hands-on experience with BGP and enterprise SD-WAN, including design, deployment, migration, resiliency, and complex troubleshooting.
• Strong experience with Cisco and/or Arista switching and routing in enterprise campus and data center environments; experience with Cisco DNAC or Arista CloudVision is relevant.
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto and/or FortiGate firewalls, IPSec VPNs, network segmentation, remote access, and security integration.
• Strong knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, OSPF, VLANs, Spanning Tree, EtherChannel, QoS, WAN, NAT, high availability, and related enterprise networking technologies.
• Deep understanding of DNS, DHCP, and IPAM design, configuration, and troubleshooting using Infoblox or a comparable enterprise platform.
• Demonstrated production automation experience, including Ansible playbooks, Git-based workflows, API integrations, and configuration management. Conceptual-only automation experience is not sufficient.
• Experience with network source-of-truth platforms such as NetBox or Nautobot, or comparable platforms and practices.
• Experience designing networks from small offices through large campuses and data centers, including enterprise wireless and structured cabling considerations.
• Ability to lead projects independently, manage changing priorities, communicate with technical and nontechnical audiences, and produce clear technical documentation.
• Availability for a 24/7 on-call rotation, planned maintenance windows, and occasional time-shifting for global projects.
