The Electrical Design Engineer will play a key role in creating, integrating, and supporting both hardware and embedded firmware across new product initiatives and ongoing engineering efforts.
Responsibilities
- Design a variety of electronic circuits and systems, ranging from general-purpose to highly specialized applications.
- Perform detailed analysis of components, signals, circuits, and system-level behavior.
- Use SPICE-based tools to model and simulate circuit performance.
- Create and maintain schematics using Altium Designer®.
- Develop and integrate hardware across multiple platforms and product lines.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware issues through hands-on troubleshooting and analytical methods.
- Write and maintain embedded firmware—primarily in C/C —using IAR Embedded Workbench.
- Debug firmware using ICE, JTAG, data monitoring tools, and other low-level debugging techniques.
- Determine voltage, current, and power requirements for components and system designs.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, manufacturing, documentation, and software teams to support both new designs and existing products.
- Partner with component engineers on selecting electronic parts, materials, and assemblies.
- Participate in internal technical reviews, offering feedback as both a peer and subject-matter contributor.
- Present design concepts, strategies, and project updates to engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Strong understanding of circuit theory, design, and analysis.
- Experience running simulations in SPICE.
- Ability to take a product from concept through design, testing, and support.
- Solid working knowledge of common analog and digital electronic circuits—including transistor/FET amplifiers, solid-state switches, bias networks, bridges, rectifiers, filters, I/O circuits, current sources, and power regulation (linear and switching).
- Strong hands-on capabilities with standard hand tools.
- Proficiency in using oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and other bench test equipment.
- Familiarity with schematic capture tools, CAD platforms, and modern IDEs.
- Skilled in embedded firmware development (C/C ) and in hardware-firmware integration.
- Competent in AC/DC theory, electromagnetic concepts, and thermal considerations.
- Deep understanding of characteristics and behaviors of discrete components, ICs, and electromechanical devices.
- Ability to evaluate and select electronic components appropriate for design and manufacturing needs.
- Knowledge of PCB assembly processes and electronic/electromechanical build practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with vendors, manufacturers, and cross-disciplinary engineering partners.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively and uphold company values in interactions with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with communication interfaces including CAN, USB, Ethernet, and related protocols.
- Exposure to embedded Linux development environments.
- Familiarity with wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11), Bluetooth, and similar protocols.
- Experience using Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) for documentation and project tracking.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
