The mission of the Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center is to ensure that suspected victims of child abuse are not revictimized by the system designed to protect them. The Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center coordinates a multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse and neglect in a safe and child-focused setting.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
A Forensic Interviewer is tasked with obtaining a statement from a child in a developmentally sensitive, unbiased and truth-seeking manner that will support accurate and fair decision making in the criminal justice and child welfare systems through the use of nationally accredited forensic interview practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Forensic Interviewer
- Successfully complete forensic interview training.
- Conduct forensic interviews of alleged victims of abuse as requested by law enforcement, Health and Human Services and the prosecuting attorney.
- Assist in observing and providing input during forensic interviews conducted by other trained forensic interviewers.
- Assist in the facilitation of quarterly peer reviews on a local level.
- Participate in peer review in a statewide and regional level.
- Remain up to date on current research in the field of forensic interviewing.
- Pursue ongoing training and educational opportunities.
- Provide testimony in court hearings.
- Participate in the MDT case planning of involved cases.
- Assist in the coordinator of child abuse cases required under Nebraska State Statute, NCA Accreditation Standards and Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center policies.
- Responsible for the video recording system; uploading and sharing all forensic interviews.
- Responsible for inputting all case records into database system.
- Responsible for data reporting.
- Responsible for providing and coordinating educational opportunities for the MDT.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work or related field preferred and/or 2 years’ experience working with children.
Experience: Must possess a high degree of communication and interpersonal skills; strong ability to communicate and interact with children and adults. Expertise in child abuse/neglect and domestic violence is beneficial.
Individual should be a self-starter, energized, resourceful, organized, and flexible possessing a positive attitude, tact, good judgement, and cultural sensitivity.
OTHER
- Must submit to a thorough criminal background check
- Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Position involves some travel, primarily within the state. Organization covers all travel costs.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
