General Position Summary
The Grant Writer is responsible for creating compelling and persuasive grant proposals that help fund the mission of Bridge of Grace Ministries. Working collaboratively with staff, the Writer/Grant Writer helps build a sustainable grant program grounded in strong narrative, reliable data, meaningful outcomes, and consistent reporting. This role also strengthens the systems and infrastructure needed to document progress and communicate impact. The position requires leadership, creativity, strong administrative skills, and the ability to manage projects from concept through completion.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of grants—from prospecting and planning to writing, submission, reporting, and close-out.
  • Serve as point of contact for all grant-related communication, providing required documents, budgets, and organizational materials to funders or other grant writers.
  • Approach grant work with urgency, ownership, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Lead special writing projects outside of grants as assigned (narrative development, program stories, organizational storytelling, etc.).
  • Collaborate with staff to translate program activities, community impact, and organizational vision into persuasive written content.
  • Collaborate with team to align grant opportunities and identify and analyze funding sources.
  • Collaborate with Accounting, CEO, and Program Directors to prepare program and organizational budgets for grants and reporting.
  • Collaborate with staff to design surveys, tools, and systems that gather both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Collect, organize, and synthesize data, Use logic models, outcomes, indicators, and stories to support grants, donor communication, and reporting.
  • Create a grant library, organizing narrative, templates, department narratives, and other assets necessary to keep content up to date.
  • Use data and narrative to highlight growth, milestones, and the effectiveness of our programs.
  • Develop strong systems for documenting progress, outcomes, and stories through regular meetings with program staff.
  • Maintain the grant calendar and ensure timely completion of all grant-related tasks.
  • Assist with events and occasionally work non-standard hours when required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in grant writing, professional writing, or related nonprofit development work.
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process.
  • Experience gathering, interpreting, and using data (quantitative and qualitative) to support narrative, reporting, and outcomes.
  • Previous work with program budgets, financial documents, or financial collaboration within a nonprofit setting preferred.
  • Experience developing or supporting outcome tracking, evaluation tools, or logic models is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to identify new opportunities for innovative approaches to storytelling, data use, and reporting.
  • Ability to study and understand how programs work in nonprofits.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform work efficiently.
  • Able to oversee and prioritize multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as work independently.
  • Exhibit persistence, thoroughness, and reliability in completing projects.
  • Flexible and adaptable, and able to receive supervision and constructive criticism.
  • Understanding of/or willingness to learn holistic, place-based community development.
  • Passion for neighborhood revitalization and a desire to make a meaningful difference for residents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and 365.
  • Must have own transportation, a valid Driver’s License, and insurance.
  • Ability to work occasional non-standard hours for events or deadlines.

Physical Requirements: Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods (up to four hours at a time). Standing for prolonged periods of time. Employees must recognize that working in the non-profit environment is demanding work, which sometimes requires working long or irregular hours.
