OVERVIEW Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community– many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities. THE POSITION Reporting to the 5th-8th DCI, the building substitute instructs students and facilitates student learning in the absence of the regular teacher. Specific responsibilities include:  Promote and support the school’s mission and values, reflecting a deep respect for all students, families, and staff Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans Create a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students Maintain a safe and orderly environment Maintain established routines of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Maintain reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility Communicate effectively with parents when needed Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated Participate in myriad forms of professional development as scheduled for all faculty Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree required Direct experience working with children  Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal, with different audiences, including students, parents/guardians, and staff Value of diversity and demonstration of cultural competence and sensitivity; experience in supporting diverse needs and working with diverse populations. Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful problem solver Detail-oriented and organized Strong team player and experience working collaboratively Life-long learner; willingness to make and learn from mistakes; passion for learning new things Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable COMPENSATION Competitive and commensurate with experience.
