Overview
Brick House Recovery is seeking a full-time Addiction Recovery Coach to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from addiction and mental health challenges. This position requires a strong understanding of behavioral health, crisis intervention, and the ability to foster a supportive environment for clients. As a Recovery Coach, you will utilize your skills in mentoring and motivational interviewing to empower clients and help them achieve their recovery goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides individual, group, and family support.
- Meet with clients individually at least twice per month to review goals, step-work, and treatment progress.
- Available to clients 24/7 on weekdays, weekends, and holidays by phone, in person, or other means of communication.
- Participates in clinical treatment planning with the clinical team, as requested by the Clinical Director.
- Assists individuals to gain insight into personal problems, and define goals, and treatment plans reflecting Strengths, Needs, Abilities, and references.
- Follows up on drug testing results and communicates any positive results to Executive Directors, Clinical Supervisor, Operations Director, and clinical staff.
- Documents in EHR all client meetings, drug test results, and incident reports.
- Provides crisis intervention and consultation.
- May be required to provide a minimum number of hours weekly, as specified by the superior or director.
- Performs operational functions consistent with the needs of the program and under the direction of the Operations Director.
- Plan and implement monthly recreation and service activities.
- Conducts new-client orientation within 3 days upon intake with Admissions Dir.
- Other duties given by Operations Dir, or Executive Director as needed.
- Understands and follows all Code of Ethics requirements.
Conditions of Employment:
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and random testing upon reasonable suspicion of use
- Completion of orientation and required paperwork prior to reporting to work
- Completion of CPR/First Aid Training within the first 30 days of employment
- For personnel in the role of recovery coach/Peer Support Specialist, abstinence* for at least 12 months is required, unless determined by the Executive Director and CEO.
- Abstinence is the intentional and sustained choice to refrain from the use of mood- or mind-altering substances, including alcohol and drugs. In the context of recovery, abstinence represents a foundational commitment to sobriety and a clear boundary that supports physical healing, emotional clarity, and spiritual growth. It is not merely the absence of substance use but an active, ongoing decision to pursue a healthier, substance-free lifestyle that enables personal transformation and long-term recovery.
- Must be actively “working a program of recovery.” Meaning, involved in recovery-related actions, such as: sponsorship, meeting attendance, step work, therapy, psych medication management, service, etc. Failure to work a program of recovery threatens the role and responsibility placed on a person qualified to lead newly sober individuals, therefore, this is a vital job requirement.
Level of Supervision:
- Works under medium supervision and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals and consults with superior or higher levels of management on the more difficult and complex phases of work.
- Is expected to be a strong self-starter and able to organize their time and work requirements sufficiently to meet established timelines and quality expectations.
- Provides direction and supervision as needed to other staff as it relates to day-to-day care and service delivery, and its impact on the client's treatment goals and progress.
- Responsible for ensuring continuity of therapeutic care for clients in the program by following all policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
- Medical needs.
- Discharge of the client.
- Approving or denying special requests that impact the therapeutic goals of the client.
- Incident management, processing, debriefing, and documentation
Educational / Licensing Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent GED
- Must be willing to get a Recovery Coach Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Must be a sober person in recovery for at least 18 months, unless determined by the Executive Team and CEO.
- Must intimately understand and have experience with the twelve steps.
- Must intimately understand the spiritual principles of recovery and emotional sobriety.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with inpatient, residential, outpatient, and/or mental health care. Must have direct clinical and case management experience, group leadership experience, and knowledge regarding substance abuse rehabilitation philosophy, as determined by Exec. Dir.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to lead and direct the work of others, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understand and adhere to Brick House Recovery code of ethics.
- Must have a basic computer and technology skills.
