ABOUT ULTIMATE TOWING & RECOVERY

Ultimate Towing & Recovery, LLC — together with our sister company, Brian Omps Towing & Repair, LLC — is one of the largest heavy-duty, commercial towing businesses in the Mid-Atlantic. We primarily serve commercial clientele and government entities, and we do not perform private property towing, repossession, or other “non-consensual” towing services. With locations in Statesville, Hamptonville, and Mount Airy, NC, Ultimate Towing services the I-77 corridor north of Charlotte.

THE ROLE

We're hiring a Corporate Controller to own the financial backbone of our business. This is a full-ownership role working directly with the CEO/Owners, with significant autonomy and a real mandate to drive positive change in professionalizing our organization. You will lead our conversion to GAAP accrual accounting, implement rigorous financial controls, and deliver the monthly reporting and KPI insights that ownership relies on to run the business. This is not a maintenance role — you'll be building systems, processes, and infrastructure that don't exist today, with the support and resources to do it right.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

•    Cash-to-Accrual Conversion — Champion our transition from cash-based revenue recognition (with an end-of-month AR accrual “plug”) to full GAAP accrual revenue recognition — recording invoice-level data across 700–800 invoices per month and applying payments at the invoice level

•    Monthly Close — Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process end-to-end — building a documented close calendar and driving toward a 5–8 business-day close with audit-ready workpapers

•    Monthly Reporting — Consolidated financial statements and KPI tracking — accurate, on time, every time

•    Bank Reconciliation — Reconcile cash to month-end bank balances every month, ensuring all revenue collections are deposited and all expense disbursements are captured and reviewed

•    Systems Ownership — Own the chart of accounts and accounting systems, including evaluating and leading a potential migration from QuickBooks-class software to a mid-market ERP, and integrating dispatch/operations data with the general ledger

•    Internal Controls — Design and implement internal controls appropriate for a cash-intensive, multi-location business — segregation of duties, approval matrices and spending authority limits, cash handling procedures, and fraud prevention

•    Accounts Payable / Expense Oversight — Handle payables with tight financial control. Question all expenses — big or small — ensuring statements are paid on time while scrutinizing them for overbilling and cost-savings opportunities

•    Purchase Order System — Design and implement a PO system for parts orders — ensuring parts purchased are billed out, and parts not billed out are returned

•    Payroll — Oversee payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery

•    Fixed Assets / Fleet — Maintain the fixed asset register for a substantial heavy-truck and equipment fleet — capex tracking, book/tax depreciation schedules, and gain/loss on disposals

•    GAAP Technical Accounting — Support book/tax PP&E allocation and depreciation, bad debt reserves, expense accruals, lease liabilities, and related areas

•    Multi-State / Tax Compliance — Oversee sales/use tax, IFTA, multi-state payroll tax, and business licensing compliance across operating locations

•    Year-End Tax — Work with our tax advisors to ensure timely tax reporting and investor K-1 distributions

•    FP&A Buildout — After initial success in the role, bring on additional FP&A support underneath you to manage, and consolidate FP&A functions with our sister company

A plus, but not required:

•    Cash Forecasting — Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, and manage cash positioning across operating accounts

•    KPI Dashboard — Design and maintain an operational KPI dashboard — revenue per call, calls per truck, gross margin by service line, truck utilization, DSO and AR aging, labor and fuel cost percentages — delivered on a fixed monthly cadence with high confidence in the underlying data

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

•    Experience — 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years as a CFO, Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar role

•    CPA — CPA-qualified

•    Public Accounting Foundation — Big 4 / large regional public accounting background preferred

•    Ownership — A “champion” mindset with a deep sense of ownership; you don't just manage to outcomes — you own the results and drive them across the finish line

•    Builder — Comfortable creating processes, controls, and systems that don't exist yet

•    Hands-On — This is a player-coach seat: you will personally do the work before you build the team beneath you

•    Industry Experience — Experience in towing, transportation, logistics, automotive dealerships, equipment rental, or other field-services / fleet-based businesses preferred, but not required

•    Technical Accounting — Working knowledge of ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 842 (leases), and ASC 360 (PP&E) preferred, but not required; ASC 805 (business combinations) a plus

•    Systems & Tools — Advanced Excel required; experience with QuickBooks and mid-market ERPs a plus

•    PE Fluency — Experience in a PE-backed, founder-led, or high-growth environment preferred, but not required — you understand the reporting cadence, scrutiny, and pace

•    Location — Hybrid. This role begins fully in person; we are supportive of — and will encourage — building the digital infrastructure and processes to make the position fully remote (or 1–2 days in person maximum)

WHY THIS ROLE

•    Ground-floor seat professionalizing one of the largest heavy-duty towing platforms in the Mid-Atlantic — with real scale and consolidation opportunity ahead

•    Full ownership of the finance function with direct access to the CEO/Owners — your work gets seen and your voice gets heard

•    Significant autonomy and the ability to drive real, visible change in professionalizing the organization

•    Build the finance function rather than inherit someone else's mess — with a clear growth path: prove out the Controller seat, then build and lead the combined FP&A function across affiliated companies — a credible track to a CFO title

  • •    $130,000 – $150,000 with health insurance, 401(k), PTO, and sick days

Salary : $130,000 - $150,000
