Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Dental Sterilization Technician to join our dental practice. The ideal candidate will ensure the sterilization and proper handling of dental instruments, maintain infection control standards, and support the clinical team in delivering safe and efficient patient care. This role is vital to maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the overall workflow within our dental clinic, specializing in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics.
Responsibilities
- Properly clean, sterilize, and package dental instruments using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Prepare instrument trays for various dental procedures, ensuring all necessary tools are available and properly sterilized.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument inventory, and compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
- Assist dental staff with chairside assisting tasks as needed, including passing instruments and managing supplies.
- Support the clinical team by ensuring all infection control procedures are followed meticulously to prevent cross-contamination.
- Monitor and document sterilization process parameters, including temperature, pressure, and cycle duration.
- Maintain cleanliness of the sterilization area and storage rooms, adhering to OSHA standards for aseptic technique.
- Stay current with updates in infection control practices and dental technology to ensure best practices are followed.
Skills
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques within a dental setting.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, and medical documentation standards including HIPAA compliance.
- Experience with X-ray procedures, chairside assisting, and medical imaging is a plus.
- Understanding of dental terminology related to general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Ability to operate 3D scanners and other advanced dental technology is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for maintaining accurate records of sterilization cycles and inventory management.
- Excellent communication skills suitable for working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including dental receptionists and clinical staff.
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for the right candidate.
