Join our team as a Cemetery Groundskeeper and play a vital role in maintaining the dignity, beauty, and serenity of our cemetery grounds. While we partner with a professional lawn care company for routine mowing and large-scale maintenance, this role is essential in maintaining and upkeeping areas in between scheduled services, ensuring consistent appearance and care throughout the grounds.
As a Groundskeeper, you will also assist with burial-related operations and monument care, helping preserve both the functionality and aesthetic of our sacred space. Your dedication will directly contribute to honoring those laid to rest and providing comfort to the families we serve.
Duties
- Maintain cemetery grounds between scheduled lawn service visits, including detail work such as trimming, edging, and touch-ups
- Perform landscape maintenance tasks including pruning, planting, and general upkeep of lawns, gardens, and memorial areas
- Open and close gravespaces in accordance with burial schedules and procedures
- Probe and locate grave spaces accurately for upcoming services and installations
- Install, set, and maintain monuments and markers, ensuring proper placement and alignment
- Clean and maintain monuments, removing debris, buildup, and ensuring respectful presentation
- Perform trash removal throughout the property to maintain a clean and welcoming environment
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for groundskeeping and burial-related tasks
- Assist with irrigation system monitoring to ensure proper watering of lawns and gardens
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, tools, and funeral home to ensure safe and efficient operation
- Inspect grounds regularly to identify hazards and ensure all areas are safe for visitors
Experience
- Prior experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, cemetery operations, or a related field is highly preferred
- Knowledge of horticulture principles including plant care, soil management, and pest control
- Experience with grave opening/closing, monument installation, or willingness to learn
- Familiarity with irrigation systems and landscape maintenance techniques
- Ability to operate hand tools (shovels, rakes, pruners) and power tools (trimmers, blowers, etc.)
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining respectful, well-kept grounds
- Understanding of safety procedures related to equipment use and outdoor work environments
