Summary
The Assistant Head of Video, under the supervision of the Head of Video, executes the setup, mounting, rigging, calibrating, programming and execution of video for Janiec Opera Company productions, Orchestra and Chamber Events, Special Events and Special Projects. The Assistant Head of Video works on a core crew with added members as needed per show. They are also responsible for the maintenance of the video equipment and supplies as directed. A basic knowledge of camera equipment, video shots, and video switching is required. Holistic effective communication and dissemination of information is essential to the successful execution of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a high standard in all areas of the department -- both a professional appearance and a high technical standard.
- Assist in all operations of the Video Department, as assigned.
- Under the direction of the Head of Video; setup, mount, rig, calibrate, program and execute video/ switching for opera/musical season, the Orchestral season, and Special Events.
- Work under Video Director and Head of Video to complete all assigned projects.
- Serve on the run crew as required.
- Update inventory as assigned.
- Perform video duties for 6 performance venues and over 80 performances.
- Attend all load-ins and outs.
- Be prepared to assist other crews/departments at the end of season strike until dismissed by Production Management.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Supervised by Head of Video and Director of Production.
Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly motivated and passionate about ensuring a positive patron experience.
- Good attitude and work ethic.
- Willing to work physically.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs reliably and safely.
- Willingness to take ownership of your position and not blame other staff members or outside circumstances for your degree of success on individual tasks and on your position as a whole.
- Able to take instruction and feedback from supervisors and use it to improve your job performance.
- Understanding of channels of communication and the importance of clear and open communication at all times.
- Maintain calm under pressure and receive/ intake information from multiple sources that you quickly prioritize and relay to Head Electricians or Director of Production/ act upon if deemed appropriate.
- Above all, must possess a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and ability to work well in a team dynamic.

Compensation
Includes a season stipend paid bi-weekly, full board, and on-campus housing.
