Position Overview
Brevard Academy is seeking a caring and dependable 1:1 Instructional Assistant to provide individualized academic and personal care support to a student with special needs. This position focuses on helping the student access classroom instruction, develop skills for independence, and fully participate in the school community in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily one-on-one support to a student in academic and personal care areas.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies outlined in the student’s IEP.
- Assist the student during classroom activities, transitions, and specials (such as art, music, and physical education).
- Support the student’s engagement and independence within the general education setting.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and Exceptional Children staff.
- Document support activities and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Provide personal care assistance as needed, which may include toileting, hygiene, or mobility support.
- Participate in staff meetings or training sessions as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in education or related field preferred.
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
- Demonstrated patience, reliability, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to follow individualized plans and teacher direction.
- Physical ability to assist with mobility or personal care tasks as needed.
- Willingness to participate in training related to specialized supports or assistive equipment.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, following the Brevard Academy school calendar.
