Chemical Applicator
Position Summary
The Chemical Applicator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and effective application of fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other landscape treatment products to turf, trees, shrubs, and landscape beds. This position requires knowledge of chemical application techniques, equipment operation, regulatory compliance, and safety procedures. The Chemical Applicator monitors plant health identifies pest and disease issues, and ensures treatments are applied according to industry standards and state regulations.
Role Purpose
The purpose of this position is to protect and enhance the health and appearance of commercial and residential landscapes through the safe and effective application of approved chemical treatments. The Chemical Applicator plays a critical role in maintaining healthy turf and plant material while ensuring environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other approved products to turf, trees, shrubs, and landscape beds according to label instructions and company standards.
- Mix, handle, transport, store, and dispose of chemicals in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Calibrate, operate, inspect, and maintain spray equipment and other application tools.
- Monitor landscapes for signs of pests, diseases, weeds, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress.
- Document all applications, observations, and treatment recommendations using company software and reporting systems.
- Maintain accurate records required by regulatory agencies and company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients regarding treatment schedules and landscape conditions.
- Load, transport, and unload materials and equipment safely.
- Assist with related landscape maintenance duties as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of chemical application methods, mixing procedures, rates, and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain chemical application equipment.
- Understanding of pesticide labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and applicable regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Basic knowledge of turfgrass, tree, and ornamental plant care.
Requirements
- Current Idaho Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain and maintain licensing as required).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
- Knowledge of chemical safety, handling, storage, and environmental protection practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial landscape management, turf care, arboriculture, or pest control.
- Experience using GPS-enabled application or recordkeeping software.
- Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
