What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service - Nutrition Program Specialist position at Brentwood Union School District (Northern California)?
Primary Functions: Under the direction of the Food Services Coordinator, coordinate or assist with nutrional analysis of all meals and menu planning; oversee compliance of daily breakfast, lunch and a la carte programs at all sites; maintain communications with site staff to meet nutrional service needs and assure smooth and efficient department activities.
Performance Responsibilities
* Plan and prepare menus which meet nutritional requirements. Develop and test standardized recipes.
* Develop training programs for food service staff.
* Train staff in meal production techniques, sanitary kitchen and food handling practices, customer service, personal hygiene and daily work routines.
* Travel to various sites to review the food preparation and serving lines to insure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and district policies and procedures.
* Assist Food Service Coordinator with planning community relations activities, develop specifications for cafeteria products and equipment and provide recommendations regarding child nutrition activities and operations.
* Work with students doing taste testing of new products & encouraging students to try new products.
* Create monthly nutrition education newsletters for parents.
* Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records and files related to assigned activities and personnel.
* Maintain current knowledge of Federal, state and local rules and regulations affecting the national school meal program, train staff in changes in rules and regulations.
* Respond to parent inquiries and concerns.
* Perform related duties as assinged. Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of: USDA approved nutrient analysis software; dietetics, nutrition and nutrition education; sanitation and safety practices related to handling, cooking, baking and serving food; methods of preparing and serving food in large quantities; proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies; standard kitchen equipment, utensils and measurement; health and safety regulations; record keeping and report preparation techniques; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability of: Function independently; understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; understand and interpret District policies and practices; prioritize work and communications; deal with the public/community and staff in a tactful, polite manner. Esperience/Education:
Required: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college course work in nutrition or related field; minimum of two years increasingly responsible child nutrition experience; valid CA driver's license; ServeSafe Certificate or equivalent.
Preferred: Degree in Nutritional Studies or related field, or Registered Dietician
