Journeyman Electrician

Overview

We are seeking a seasoned and motivated Journeyman Electrician to join our industrial electrical team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical systems in industrial facilities.

This position requires the ability to work independently, read and interpret electrical drawings, troubleshoot complex electrical systems, and maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and productivity. Our projects include industrial power distribution, motor controls, MCCs, transformers, switchgear, control systems, equipment installations, plant maintenance, and electrical upgrades.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in demanding industrial environments and will have the knowledge and experience necessary to identify problems, develop solutions, and complete electrical work with minimal supervision.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and commission industrial electrical systems and equipment.
• Install and terminate 480V and medium-voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, MCCs, disconnects, and motor starters.
• Install and troubleshoot motor control circuits, VFDs, contactors, overload protection, control transformers, and industrial control systems.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings, and project specifications.
• Install and terminate conduit, cable tray, feeders, branch circuits, control wiring, and equipment connections.
• Perform electrical testing and troubleshooting using multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, phase rotation meters, and other electrical test equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical distribution, motor control, control circuits, and equipment failures to identify the root cause of problems.
• Assist with installation and troubleshooting of PLC, instrumentation, and industrial automation systems.
• Perform equipment startups, commissioning, testing, and functional checks as required.
• Work on planned shutdowns, equipment upgrades, plant expansions, and ongoing industrial maintenance projects.
• Maintain accurate documentation of installations, modifications, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
• Work safely around energized equipment, rotating machinery, industrial processes, and other jobsite hazards in accordance with company safety procedures.
• Maintain compliance with the NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, project specifications, and applicable local codes.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for company tools and equipment.
• Provide direction, training, and mentorship to apprentices and less-experienced electricians.
• Communicate effectively with foremen, project managers, customers, and other trades.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and power distribution.
• Proficient in electrical troubleshooting and use of electrical test equipment.
• Ability to interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, control drawings, and equipment wiring diagrams.
• Experience with MCCs, motor starters, VFDs, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, disconnects, and motor controls.
• Experience installing and terminating large conductors and control wiring.
• Strong conduit installation and bending skills, including rigid, EMT, PVC-coated rigid, and other industrial raceway systems.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and industrial electrical safety practices.
• Familiarity with PLCs, instrumentation, industrial controls, and automated equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical equipment independently and determine appropriate corrective action.
• Ability to work from project drawings and specifications with minimal supervision.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory and industrial power systems.
• Ability to lead and mentor apprentices and helpers.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and productivity.

Requirements

• 6 years of industrial electrical experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
• Current Journeyman Electrician license or certification as required by the applicable jurisdiction.
• OSHA 10 minimum; OSHA 30 preferred.
• Experience working in industrial facilities and around operating electrical equipment.
• Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, working from elevated platforms, bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in confined spaces.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, shutdowns, and occasional extended hours when project requirements dictate.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass required site-specific safety orientations, background requirements, and drug screening where applicable.

Pay: $33.14 - $43.28 per hour
