Position Summary: Full-time faculty position to begin in Fall 2026
Minimum Qualifications:
MFA degree in Theatre or the Performing Arts or MA with significant professional experience or equivalent
Concentration in Costume Technology preferred
Established professional career as a theatre artist.
Evidence of continued creative work
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting as well as the ability to multi-task between multiple productions and deadlines
Knowledge and practice in standard costume construction methods, historical pattern development, historical tailoring, costume alterations and fitting techniques, knowledge of textiles and other materials, craftwork, dye techniques, drafting and draping patterns, pattern alterations, costume care/washing wigs, and makeup
Experience in budgets, purchasing, and organization
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching
Must be willing to work positively and contribute within the already established Gainesville Theatre Alliance
Priority is given to those with an MFA in Costume Technology
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The load is 12 credits per semester
Work in unison with the Costume Shop Supervisor
Daily coordination of the shop operations and activities in support of the professional training and educational mission
Supervise Costume Shop work study students and help train them in the production of costumes while pushing them into professional-level training
Facilitate the maintenance of all costume shop equipment and work areas
Help keep inventory and ordering of shop supplies, as well as maintain all costume spaces in clean and working order
Work with Guest Artists from various areas of the country
Assist with the organization and tracking of all costume receipts and budgets
Read scripts, attend design meetings, attend production meetings, run work calls, run strikes, attend Tech Watch, and supervise the Wardrobe Crew training and work during tech week. Divide this work with the Costume Shop Supervisor
Teach undergraduate courses as assigned; may include but not limited to Script Analysis, Capstone, Theatre History, Period Styles for Designers, and other lecture theatre courses. Will be assigned 6 credits of lecture per semester and 6 credits of Practicum (costume shop) per semester
Recruit for the Theatre Department programs and Brenau. Collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid to set the Theatre Talent Scholarship amounts for the recruited students whom you admit. May advise students to register for courses. Collaborate and assist with the joint Gainesville Theatre Alliance (GTA) audition events. Travel may be involved in recruitment and conferences
Serves on committees and/or conducts other university service responsibilities. Volunteer to serve on GTA committees as needed.
Maintain professional standing
Leadership role of 1 per academic year (examples: Dramaturgy or HMU Design) as needed. Receives up to 3 credits of reassigned time for the semester the show is produced or a leadership position is needed. If not applied, pick up 3 credit hours of classes. This is determined by the Artistic Director and the Associate Artistic Director of GTA
Support fellow faculty members, including those within the Gainesville Theatre Alliance structure
Attend and participate in faculty meetings with both Brenau and Gainesville Theatre Alliance
May need to attend Tech for productions and help with Wardrobe Crew training
Other duties as assigned by the Chair

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.

Special Requirements:
Brenau University conducts various screenings to ensure a safe and secure environment. These checks are a condition of employment and may be performed at different times throughout employment. (1) Background Checks: All new hires must undergo a criminal background check. To maintain employment, individuals must have and maintain a favorable criminal history.
