JOB DESCRIPTION - BOARD CERTIFIED BEHAVIOR ANALYST (BCBA)


GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides leadership, consultation, assessment, coaching, and behavioral support services for students requiring intensive behavioral, social-emotional, and instructional interventions. The BCBA collaborates with school teams, families, and community agencies to design, implement, and monitor evidence-based behavioral supports within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.


The BCBA supports district efforts to create safe, inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environments through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), functional assessment processes, and positive behavioral intervention systems.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), behavioral observations, and data analysis to identify student behavioral needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aligned to student needs and district MTSS systems.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and professional development to teachers, paraeducators, administrators, and support staff regarding behavioral interventions and evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support students with behavioral, social-emotional, developmental, and communication needs.
  • Analyze behavioral and instructional data to support intervention planning and progress monitoring.
  • Support district implementation of trauma-informed, restorative, and positive behavioral support systems including direct support of the students and staff of the elementary behavior program
  • Participate in IEP, manifestation determination, re-entry, safety planning, and student support meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide direct supervision and oversight of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), Certified Behavior Technicians (CBTs), and/or behavioral support staff in accordance with Washington State law and BACB standards.
  • Ensure behavioral services are implemented with fidelity and aligned with district procedures and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with families and outside agencies to coordinate supports for students.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress monitoring documentation, and required reports.
  • Support district crisis response and de-escalation planning when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and practices
  • Knowledge of MTSS frameworks and PBIS systems
  • Knowledge of special education laws and procedures
  • Ability to analyze and interpret behavioral data
  • Ability to develop behavior intervention systems
  • Ability to coach and collaborate with adults
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Ability to work collaboratively within diverse educational settings


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in behavior analysis, psychology, education, special education, or related field
  • Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
  • Current Washington State Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) credential or eligibility required
  • Experience working with students exhibiting significant behavioral needs preferred
  • Experience in school-based behavioral support systems preferred
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license preferred


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
  • Washington State Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) credential through the Washington State Department of Health
  • Washington State requires either current BCBA certification or completion of graduate coursework, supervised experience, and successful completion of the BCBA examination for licensure.
