Bregman, Berbert, Schwartz & Gilday, LLC (BBS&G), a mid-sized law firm located in downtown Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support our active Litigation practice. This role provides day-to-day administrative and paralegal support to attorneys handling complex civil litigation matters in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable balancing substantive litigation support with essential administrative tasks, including copying, scanning, mailing, filing, and general office support. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed are essential.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, copy, scan, assemble, and mail pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and service packets; track and maintain proof of service.
- Assist with filing pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents in state and federal courts (including e-filing and preparation of courtesy copies when required).
- Draft and send routine correspondence to clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors.
- Organize, maintain, and update electronic and paper litigation files, including pleadings, discovery materials, exhibits, and correspondence.
- Assist with discovery tasks, including organizing productions, preparing document binders, and tracking deadlines.
- Prepare exhibits and notebooks for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials.
- Manage litigation calendars, tracking filing deadlines, court dates, hearings, depositions, and trial schedules.
- Schedule client meetings, depositions, and court appearances, and coordinate with court personnel, court reporters, vendors, and process servers.
- Perform general administrative tasks such as copying, scanning, mailing, labeling, file organization, and data entry as needed to support the Litigation team.
- Maintain litigation matter lists and assist with closing files at the conclusion of matters.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant is preferred, but relevant administrative experience in a law firm environment will also be considered.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort handling administrative and hands-on support tasks, including copying, scanning, mailing, and file maintenance.
- Familiarity with court filings, litigation procedures, and document management systems is a plus.
- Notary Public a plus (MD, DC or VA), or willingness to obtain.
