POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Track & Field Coach, Sprints is responsible for providing visionary leadership for the Track & Field Program. The Assistant Track & Field Sprints Coach is required to abide by rules and regulations of; the NFHS, the MSHSL, and Breck School.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.

  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in Track & Field.

  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the Track & Field Program across the school community.

  • Ensure all Track & Field coaches work together toward a common goal within the Track & Field Program and provide unity across all levels and teams.

  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate student’ athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing basis.

  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.

  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.

  • Work with the Strength and Conditioning Coach to provide a year round strength and conditioning program.

  • Use the allotted days by the MSHSL in June and July to provide athletes the opportunity to do Track & Field specific training.

  • Encourage and support multisport athletes within Breck School.

  • Assist student athletes with college recruitment.

  • Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with news media and other organizations.

  • Participate in special activities to include parent meetings, senior night, banquets, etc.

  • Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic or other appropriate administrator.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of experience coaching Track & Field at the high school level (Assistant coaching experience preferred).

  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.

  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (MSHSL, etc.), opponents, staff, parents, and athletes.

COMPETENCIES

  • Possess excellent organizational, communication, delegation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Be an effective and timely communicator, both in written and oral form.

  • Maintain appropriate documentation.

  • Displays good judgment, time management, and an ability to prioritize.

  • Represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.
