Tier 1: Security Officer
This entry-level position is focused on visibility, deterrence, and non-confrontational safety tasks. Officers in this tier are the primary point of contact for daily security matters and a friendly, accessible presence for students and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine patrols of school grounds, including hallways, parking lots, and building exteriors.
- Monitor access control points, verify visitor credentials, and escort visitors.
- Enforce basic school policies and direct foot and vehicle traffic during arrival and dismissal.
- Report any suspicious activity, safety hazards, or policy violations to a higher-ranking officer.
- Complete daily activity logs, incident reports (as needed)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Initial training on school-specific protocols, communication techniques, and de-escalation methods.
- Strong interpersonal skills, an approachable demeanor, and familiarity with the school community.
Tier 2: Senior Security Officer
These officers possess more training and experience, allowing them to handle more complex or escalating situations. They act as mentors to junior officers and are often assigned to higher-risk posts or special events.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to and manage a wider range of incidents, such as conflicts, potential threats, and medical emergencies, while documenting them clearly in detailed reports.
- Provide guidance and oversight to Tier 1 officers and assist with on-the-job training.
- Work closely with the school administration and faculty to address specific safety concerns.
- Conduct investigations into security incidents and gather evidence.
- Complete and review daily activity logs for accuracy
- Complete incident reports, participate in threat assessments
Qualifications:
- Meets all qualifications of Tier I
- Minimum of 1 years of experience as a Security Officer in a school setting.
- Advanced training in incident response, crisis management, and conflict resolution.
- Proven track record of sound judgment and effective communication during high-stress events.
- OPOTC certification preferred
Tier 3: Lead Security Officer
The Lead Officer is a leader who manages the daily operations of the campus security team. They are responsible for a small team of officers and report directly to the Director or Manager of Safety and Security.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate the daily assignments, posts, and schedules for the security officers on their shift.
- Brief officers at the start of each shift and facilitate communication between the security team and school administration.
- Serve as the on-site incident commander for low-level emergencies, implementing established protocols until relieved by the Manager or Director of Safety and Security or an external agency.
- Participate in School Safety Committee
- Manage emergency/safety drills, provide recommendations for improvement, memorialize drill results
Qualifications:
- Meets all qualifications of Tier II
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in school security, with leadership experience.
- Formal training in supervision, report writing, and emergency command protocols.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate personnel effectively.
- Prior law enforcement experience or military experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Performs work in an office setting with moderate levels of noise, sitting for long periods of time, repetitive motion using computers and phones, with exposure to fluorescent lighting
