Substation Design Engineer, Waco, TX

What You’ll Do
Design & Develop
- Create and analyze substation layouts, engineering drawings, system calculations, and specifications
- Design projects in compliance with codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Gain hands-on experience with electrical and civil applications, including steel structures, breakers, grounding, protective relaying, and foundation design
Plan & Analyze
- Partner with member cooperatives, municipalities, contractors, and consultants to scope and deliver projects
- Conduct engineering and economic analysis to support project decisions and budgets
- Investigate new technologies and apply best practices in substation engineering
Support & Collaborate
- Provide technical expertise across departments such as ROW, Regulatory, Project Management, and Planning
- Assist construction crews, suppliers, and inspectors to resolve field or design issue
- Perform site visits, inspections, and testing of substations
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required
- Other ABET-accredited engineering degrees with specialized substation design experience may be considered
Skills & Traits
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders
- Eagerness to learn and apply knowledge in high-voltage substation applications
Professional Credentials
- Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus; required for signing/sealing reports and drawings
