Description

Brazoria County Criminal District Attorney's Office has an opening for an Assistant District Attorney assigned to Child Protective Services cases. Our office is a friendly team-oriented office. We are looking for a prosecutor who wants to be part of our team. The position requires a strong dedication to children and families, the capacity to work and appropriately interface with various agencies, prosecutors in other divisions, and the family bar. The attorney will be working in family court with cases concerning abused and neglected children with a moderate to heavy trial load.

Starting annual salary, depending on qualifications & experience, is from $112,287.00.

Example of Duties

• Advise the Department of Family and Protective Services caseworkers as to what legal action is appropriate regarding children who have been abused and neglected.
• Evaluate, file, and prosecute CPS cases from intake to trial and beyond.
  
• Prepare for and handle emergency removals, adversary hearings, termination of parental rights, permanency hearings, and other hearings independently.
  
• Manage all aspects of pending litigation including but not limited to: drafting pleadings and orders, conducting legal research, completing discovery, and representing the Department at all assigned hearings and trials.
  
• On-call for staffing of emergency removals
  
Uphold the highest ethical standards in all actions and decisions.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas
  
• J.D. from an accredited law school and a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  
• Over 3 years of relevant legal experience preferred (prosecutorial experience preferred)
  
• Strong knowledge of law enforcement procedures and court operations
  
Applicants should have civil trial experience
