FUNCTION:  Responsible for assisting Hunt Supervisor & Director of Wildlife Management in the management of wildlife and its habitat on Brays Island Plantation as well as serving as a light duty mechanic for the Hunt Department equipment.  Responsibilities include guiding hunts for owners and guests and providing maintenance and/or certain repairs to assigned equipment and vehicles.  Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the vision of “One Brays” goals and objectives.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prepares for and provides deer, quail, turkey, and duck hunts for owners and guests during designated seasons, ensuring safety measures are adhered to and the hunters are provided a premier experience.
  2. Responsible for conducting safety program with owners surrounding various hunts.
  3. Establishes and maintains working relationship (exercise/basic training) with plantation dogs prior to quail season.
  4. Ensures the upkeep, installation and repair of deer stands, and fence lines.
  5. Plants for and maintains bird patches and food plots; mowing of woods/hunt roads; tree trimming and on-going maintenance of hunt fields.
  6. Assists with maintenance of flight pens and feeding of flight pen birds.
  7. Responsible for processing game, including tracking and retrieving downed deer and delivery to processor.
  8. Assists with Hunt department trips and seminars.
  9. Assists in diagnosing vehicle issues and performing basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
  10. Prepare and maintain detailed records of all repair work done on vehicles, including parts used and labor time.
  11. Operate a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment to support others in repairing vehicles.
  12. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the workshop/outside areas, including cleaning tools and equipment after use.
  13. Prepares hunt reports, accounts receivable tickets, and general recordkeeping such as licenses, shell ordering/counts, etc.
  14. Responsible for operation and daily maintenance on all equipment.
  15. Assists with prescribed burning program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.         Capable of working extended hours, to include weekends and holidays as necessary.
  1. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed.
  2. Must also be able to use a pen or pencil to write.
4.         Must be able to speak English in a clear and understandable voice so that various types of communications may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
5.         Position involves climbing, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 75 lbs.   This movement can occur throughout the day.  Must be able to transport oneself around the plantation.  Must be able to drive a car, and possess a valid driver's license.
6.         Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a computer, telephone and various other routine business items.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Working environment is both indoors and outdoors.  Required to perform job in all types of weather conditions.  Work day will be divided in varying percentages from well-lighted, temperature-controlled work area to exposure of all types of weather elements.
  2. The employee will be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites.  Proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection including appropriate PPEs.
  3. Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays.  Must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently, and         cheerfully under such circumstances.  For safety reasons, employee must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.        
  4. Must be able to work effectively and cheerfully in an environment, which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.       
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:       High school graduate and/or equivalent of education and ASE Certified light truck and Diesel Mechanic preferred.
Knowledge:     Prior knowledge of hunting and farming operations and ability to troubleshoot and repair gas and diesel vehicles and heavy equipment. High knowledge of firearm safety.  Basic knowledge of first aid.
Skills:               Highly effective interpersonal skills, strong customer service experience, problem solving abilities and advanced communication skills a plus. 
Experience:     1-2 years hunting and farming experience preferred as well as multiple years mechanical experience.
Personality:     Must be able to effectively interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented with good reasoning skills.
