The Electrical Technician provides hands-on technical support for the development, testing, validation, manufacturing, and sustaining of electric actuators, and related control systems. This position is responsible for assembling prototypes, wiring and troubleshooting electrical systems, conducting laboratory testing, collecting and documenting test data, supporting certification activities, and assisting engineers with product development projects. 
  
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented technician with strong electrical and electro-mechanical aptitude who enjoys working in a fast-paced engineering environment and contributing directly to the development of new products. 
  
Job Responsibilities: 
Responsible for supporting product development, laboratory testing and validation, troubleshooting and failure analysis, manufacturing and sustaining activities, and laboratory operations.

 

Product Development Support 
• Build, modify, and maintain electrical and electro-mechanical prototypes. 
• Assemble and wire prototype control panels, actuator assemblies, test fixtures, and evaluation boards. 
• Assemble and rework PCBs and verify they are operational. 
• Create wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and electrical subassemblies. 
• Assist engineers with evaluation and characterization testing of new designs. 
• Support engineering investigations and root-cause analysis activities. 
• Assist with supporting production issues and failures. 

 

Laboratory Testing and Validation 
• Set up and execute electrical, functional, environmental, and reliability tests. 
• Operate laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, network analyzers, and protocol monitoring tools. 
• Collect, organize, and document test results. 
• Generate test reports and maintain laboratory records. 

 

Troubleshooting and Failure Analysis 
• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical assemblies. 
• Diagnose PCB, wiring, motor, sensor, and communication-related issues. 
• Support root-cause investigations of manufacturing, test, and field failures. 
• Perform rework and repairs on prototype and production hardware as required. 

Manufacturing and Sustaining Support 
• Support pilot production builds and manufacturing transfers. 
• Assist in the creation and verification of work instructions and assembly procedures. 
• Validate engineering changes prior to release to production. 
• Support production and quality teams with technical issues and non-conformance investigations. 
  
Laboratory Operations 
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration records. 
• Ensure test equipment is functioning correctly and available for project use. 
• Manage inventory of components, test equipment, and laboratory supplies. 
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. 
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Capable of Interpreting: 
• Standard English documentation such as work orders and work instructions, engineering drawings and dimensions, measurement requirements, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, mechanical drawings, and bills of material. 
• Electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical requirements in a timely manner. 
• Test requirements, laboratory results, and engineering documentation. 
• Root-cause information related to manufacturing, test, and field failures. 
  
Technical Requirements: 
• Knowledge and understanding of DC and AC electrical systems, industrial control systems, sensors and instrumentation, motors and motor control, and basic electronics theory. 
• Capable of soldering, electronic assembly, prototype wiring, PCB rework, harness fabrication, test setup, and electro-mechanical troubleshooting. 
• Verification of prototype assemblies, test fixtures, actuator assemblies, PCB functionality, test results, engineering changes, and laboratory documentation. 
• Familiarity with PLCs, HMI systems, industrial communications, automation equipment, data acquisition systems, and protocol monitoring tools is beneficial.

Relevant Experience: 
• Basic Microsoft software knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and general computer experience. 
• Intermediate user of Microsoft Office applications. 
• Experience with soldering and electronic assembly techniques. 
• Experience supporting engineering development projects preferred. 
• Experience with industrial controls, motor drives, actuators, or automation equipment is highly desirable. 
• Experience with BLDC motors, motor drives, and power electronics preferred. 
• Experience supporting UL, CSA, CE, ATEX, or similar certification activities preferred. 
• Familiarity with laboratory automation and data acquisition systems preferred. 
• Experience with industrial networking protocols such as Modbus, CANopen, Ethernet/IP, or Profibus preferred.

Physical Requirement: 
Must be able to distinguish colors. 
Must be able to stand, walk, and work at laboratory benches for extended periods of time. 
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 
Frequent use of hand tools and electronic test equipment. 
Ability to distinguish wire colors and electronic component markings. 
Occasional travel may be required to support manufacturing sites, suppliers, or field investigations.

Work Environment: 
Required to work in office, engineering laboratory, and plant environments. Safety glasses and steel toe shoes may be required while performing specific tasks or while in specific manufacturing areas
