The Assistant Construction Estimator is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the estimating team. This role involves the preliminary analysis of project documents, performing detailed quantity take-offs, and coordinating with subcontractors to gather pricing. The Assistant Estimator ensures that all data is organized and accurate to help the Lead Estimator prepare comprehensive and competitive bids.
Essential Functions
Estimating Support:
- Assist in reviewing project plans and specifications to identify the scope of work.
- Help organize documentation for various bids.
Bid Coordination:
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages and proposals.
- Reach out to subcontractors and suppliers to solicit pricing and follow up on quotes.
- Organize and track subcontractor quotes, ensuring they meet the required project scope and deadlines.
Data Management & Reporting:
- Help prepare cost comparison spreadsheets and assist in value engineering research.
Team Collaboration:
- Coordinate with the Lead Estimator and Project Managers to clarify project requirements.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assist in documenting existing conditions.
- Facilitate the handoff process from estimating to the project team once a bid is won.
Quality Control:
- Flag potential risks or missing information in project documents for senior review.
- Support procurements for hard bid, design-build, and on-call projects in both private and public sectors.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Exposure to K-12, higher education, or public works projects is a plus. Exposure to estimating or junior-level construction role (Entry-level candidates with strong internship experience may be considered).
Skills & Competencies:
- Software Proficiency: Strong foundational skills in estimating software such as Bluebeam.
- Excel Expert: Must be highly proficient in Excel for data analysis and formula creation.
- Detail Oriented: High level of accuracy in mathematical calculations and data entry.
- Communication: Strong professional communication skills for interacting with subcontractors and vendors.
- Time Management: Ability to assist on multiple bids simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
- Industry Knowledge: Basic understanding of construction materials, methods, and blueprints.
Special Requirements:
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
