BAMS is seeking a math and/or ELA teacher to teach small group classes as part of our Multi-layered (tiered) Systems of Supports model. Most classes are under 8 students per class. These classes are taught in addition to their regular core instruction they receive every day. Skills classes are data driven and instruction is delivered based on the needs of the students.

Brattleboro Area Middle School serves on average, 300 7th and 8th grade students in southern Vermont. Students attend one advisory every morning, take four “core” classes during the day, and three “exploratory” classes every day. Our school uses a teaming model, and students remain on their team for their two years at BAMS.

Job Summary:
provides individualized academic assistance to students, adapting curriculum and instruction to meet diverse needs. This role often involves collaborating with other educators, monitoring student progress, and creating a supportive learning environment. Specific duties may include providing small group or one-on-one instruction, facilitating research-based learning interventions, modifying lesson plans, and potentially assisting with behavioral support.
Qualifications:
BA required
Must be able to become certified in accordance with AOE guidelines
MSA preferred
3 years teaching experience preferred
Strong understanding of teaching methodologies: Including differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and best practices in education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: To effectively collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
Ability to adapt to different learning styles: And create individualized learning experiences.
Patience and empathy: To support students with diverse needs and learning challenges.
Organizational and time management skills: To effectively plan and deliver instruction, manage student data, and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of IEPs and special education procedures: In some settings.
Experience with diverse student populations: Including students with disabilities and those from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Responsibilities & Performance Expectations:
Tailoring instruction to meet the specific needs of students, often through tutoring or small group work.
Modifying lesson plans and activities to align with students' learning styles and abilities.
Working with general education teachers, special educators, and other support staff to ensure student success.
Assessing student learning through various methods and adjusting instruction as needed.
Fostering a supportive and motivating atmosphere that encourages student growth.
As needed, assisting with student behavior management and implementing behavior support plans.
Maintaining open communication with parents/guardians and other school staff regarding student progress and needs.
Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior in the learning environment.
Adhering to all building and district directives, procedures, and policies.

Working Conditions:
Job is performed in a classroom setting with limited exposure to temperature or weather extremes
Physical Requirements:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Professional Licenses. Holds, or is able to obtain, a valid VT Professional Educator license with an endorsement and instructional level that sufficiently and lawfully permits the employee to perform such duties as may be assigned under this job description. It is the responsibility of the educator to obtain and maintain such licensure, including seeking and attending professional development activities, and keeping accurate records of such. Failure to do so, may lead to termination of employment. This requirement is aligned with Article IX Certification of Teacher as found within our collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
