What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Estimator position at Brattan Industries, Inc.?
Brattan Industries is a regional electrical contracting firm established in 1965 with 60 years of experience delivering commercial and industrial projects. Family-owned and operated, we have built a reputation for technical excellence, reliable execution, and long-standing client relationships across the Northeast. In recent years, we have expanded our footprint into the mid-Atlantic and Southeast, driven by a growing portfolio of large-scale automated warehouse and distribution projects. With a team of 150 professionals, we are a company with real roots and a clear growth trajectory, invested in our people, and built on a culture where experienced professionals want to stay and build a career.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced electrical estimator who is ready to grow beyond the bid desk. This is not a pure estimating role, nor is it a pure sales role. It is a bridge position that starts with a strong estimating foundation and, deliberately, evolves into client-facing and business development responsibilities over time.
You will join an existing estimating team and work closely alongside ownership from day one. In the near term, estimating will represent the majority of your workload. In parallel, you will begin building relationships with clients, general contractors, and project stakeholders, and you will help shape the business development approach we are building as a company.
For the right person, this is a genuine career opportunity: a path from technical estimator to a role with real leadership of client relationships and pipeline development.
Your Responsibilities
- Manage and execute bids across a range of project sizes, including projects from $1M to $24 M in value
- Manage RFIs, track bid submissions, and conduct follow-up on outstanding proposals
- Prepare clear, professional written proposals
- Participate in preconstruction meetings and client calls alongside ownership
- Serve as a resource to Project Managers at project launch, supporting scope handoff, clarifying bid intent, and ensuring a clean transition from estimate to execution
- Visit project sites following launch to build firsthand knowledge of how work is executed in the field and to develop relationships with the project team
- Re-engage at project closeout to review final costs against the original estimate, capture lessons learned, and apply those insights to future bids
- Build familiarity with existing client and GC relationships, with a view toward eventually managing select relationships independently
- Contribute to the development of a formal business development process as the company grows
- Represent the company professionally in all external interactions
Qualifications
- Mid-career electrical estimator with a minimum of 5 years of experience and a track record of bidding commercial and/or industrial projects independently
- Electrical-specific background strongly preferred; deep familiarity with commercial and industrial electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, telecom, and related disciplines
- Proficiency with ConEst or a comparable estimating platform
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and an outgoing, relationship-oriented presence; you will be representing the company in client-facing settings with owners, GCs, and project stakeholders
- Prior experience in preconstruction or client-facing roles is a plus, but not a requirement
- Must be willing to travel regionally and occasionally out of region
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience
- Health, dental, and 401(k) benefits
- Paid company holidays
- Company vehicle
- Direct access to and mentorship from ownership as you develop the client-facing side of your career
- Exposure to a diverse project portfolio across commercial, industrial, and specialty work
- A stable, established company with a team-oriented culture and a clear growth path for the right person
