Compensation: $21 - $26/hour

Job Summary: This positions primary duties are associated with performing preventative and routine maintenance on all BSR owned and operated equipment including passenger cars and diesel locomotives. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated and have the ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment. Work is predominantly centered around assuring all equipment meets and exceeds Federal Railway Administration inspection and maintenance standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections of all BSR operated and owned equipment.
- Perform single car air tests and brake work in accordance with law.
- Perform 92 and Annual service day inspections of locomotives in accordance with FRA requirements.
- Jack up cars and locomotives to change out wheels and perform truck work.
- Install and repair plumbing on passenger cars.
- Service and troubleshoot HVAC systems on passenger cars.
- Service and troubleshoot electrical systems on passenger cars.
- Employ basic railroad operating practices and rules to ensure successful interaction with operating crews and to perform safe inspections on rolling stock.
- Operates company vehicles that require a standard driver’s license.
- Strict compliance to BSR procedures/rules and applicable Federal and State regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
- Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers.
- Ability to work closely with others and be able to comprehend and carry out complex tasks.
- Mechanical skills such as welding and metal working skills, a plus.
- Experience using a variety of hand and power tooling.
- Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, tractors, and manlifts.
- Experience with routine servicing and maintenance of off and on-road vehicles and equipment preferred.
- Experience with working safely with crew members as a team.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment for all team members and guests.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Work Environment:
- Primarily work within a railroad yard.
- Extended periods of time walking or standing.
- Regular time spent outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl and twist.
- Regular lifting in excess of 50 pounds.
