What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Management Superintendent position at Branscum Construction?
The function of the Construction Management Superintendent is that of a working supervisor/coordinator of assigned project field activities for Branscum Construction Co.. The Superintendent makes on-site operational decisions and interprets/enforces policy. The Superintendent is responsible for the total on-site operational performance of the assigned job(s) through the supervision of assigned employees, coordination and monitoring of work performed by subcontractors, and the implementation and enforcement of general policies and procedures established by VP-Operations Manager.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Superintendent on a Construction Management project include:
Project Coordination –
- Project planning and scheduling to include coordination of labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors. Control of labor time, project material costs, and construction schedules.
- Monitor assigned job(s) progress. Implement any necessary corrective actions to assure compliance with company goals.
- Communicate and coordinate job requirements with the Project Manager and contractors/vendors so that material and equipment are ready when required. Monitor waste, return of unused materials, and material scrap disposal.
- Attend and assist Project Manager in pre-bid, bid opening, pre-construction, project team, progress, and Board meetings as required.
Supervision –
- Supervision of assistant assigned to the job in the most productive/efficient manner.
- Ensure that all employees receive proper instructions and training.
- Employee relations to include employee evaluations, disciplinary action, enforcement of policies and procedures.
Safety –
- Enforce all company policies and procedures. Ensure safety rules, regulations and practices are followed. Ensure required accident reports are completed and filed.
- Ensure that materials information (MDS) regarding hazardous chemicals is available and managed according to all company policies and procedures as well as any government rules and regulations. Communicate any problems regarding material use, disposal or accidents with the Project Manager.
- Complete all safety related education and certification as required.
- Completion of any duty which by its nature falls within the scope of this position as assigned by the Field Operations Supervisor.
Reporting and Documentation –
- Project reporting to include any timekeeping, cost control, and planning reports required by company procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
- Complete any reports requested by VP-Operations Manager and Project Manager which summarize operating results from the assigned job(s).
- Keep log of telephone conversations, correspondence and other on-site documentation filed in a secure manner.
- Change orders are executed and paperwork complete for Project Manager.
Quality Assurance –
- Ensure that all specifications, building codes, and Branscum quality standards are met or exeeded.
- Attend all pre-bid, bid openings, project team, pre-construction, progress and Board meetings as required.
Material & Equipment Control -
- Ensure that all materials delivered to the project site are received in accordance with plans/specifications and company policy and procedures. Receiving paperwork and/or packing slips are used to verify that received materials match the description and quantities.
- Ensure materials are handled and stored in a manner that prevents damage or theft.
- Monitor the disposal of waste according to proper guidelines and regulations.
- Coordinate in a timely manner, the need of proper equipment and operator, if necessary.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a construction superintendent, estimator or manager to include an extensive understanding of heavy commercial construction practices, principles, and procedures. Required skills include excellent communication and organization, negotiation, and time management.
Must be willing to travel throughout KY.
