Technical Writer – Automotive Service Manuals
Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Schedule: 1st Shift – 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (flexibility available)
Duration: 12-month contract with potential extension
Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Writer with automotive knowledge to support the development of service manual procedures for vehicle repair and maintenance. This role involves translating complex technical information into clear, structured documentation used by technicians and service professionals. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, hands-on automotive knowledge, and the ability to work with engineering tools such as CAD and internal parts databases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain technical service documentation including repair procedures, operating instructions, and maintenance content.
- Create vehicle component replacement procedures for service manuals.
- Organize technical materials to meet established standards for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) tools and internal vehicle databases to understand vehicle assembly and component structures.
- Review vehicle parts lists and option content to ensure documentation accuracy.
- Validate repair procedures using available labor-time and engineering resources.
- Maintain records of documentation updates, revisions, and supporting materials.
- Collaborate with engineers, technical teams, and stakeholders to gather technical specifications and verify content accuracy.
- Ensure documentation meets company formatting, terminology, and style standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 0–2 years of experience in technical writing, documentation development, or automotive technical support.
- Familiarity with CAD software or technical authoring systems.
- Knowledge of automotive repair and vehicle systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Engineering, Technical Communications, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience creating documentation for a technical or engineering audience.
- Exposure to vehicle parts databases, service manuals, or OEM documentation.
- Experience working with engineering, product, or service teams.
