What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Analyst Go Outdoors position at Brandt Information Services?
Business Analyst, Go Outdoors: Remote (U.S.-based)
Department: Technology
Reports To: Chief Product Manager
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Remote
About Brandt
Renewing a hunting license, registering a boat before fishing season opens, pulling a tag in a draw. These should take minutes, not a fight with a browser tab. Brandt Information Services already powers that experience for state wildlife and parks agencies across the country, and we're proud of the trust that comes with it: agencies keep choosing our fish and hunt systems because we show up, listen, and get the details right.
That's the bar we hold ourselves to, and it starts with requirements done well.
About the Role
This role sits at the intersection of technology and the outdoors: you'll own requirements for Brandt's Go Outdoors hunt and fish products, working across the full range of agency programs that depend on our platform during the highest-traffic moments of the season. The clearer your requirements, the faster and more confidently development can deliver, and that's what keeps hunters and anglers coming back.
The agencies and stakeholders you'll work with hold requirements work to a high bar, and the backlog moves at a steady pace. You'll need to be someone who can carry the work confidently, ask the right questions, and deliver clarity that development teams can act on.
This is a Staff II / Senior I role: built for someone who's past needing close oversight but may not yet (or just be becoming) the person other analysts lean on. If that's the gap you sit in, this is built for you. What You'll Do:
What You'll Do:
Brandt Information Services is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer and welcomes all qualified applicants. Applicants will receive fair and impartial consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected status.

What You'll Do:
- Requirements Gathering: Lead interviews, workshops, and working sessions with internal stakeholders and customers to surface business needs and turn them into accurate, comprehensive requirements.
- Backlog Refinement: Partner with Product Owners to shape user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional detail ahead of upcoming sprints.
- Documentation: Produce and maintain Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), user stories, workflows, and process diagrams that make business needs unmistakably clear.
- Translation of Needs: Convert layered business problems into technical and functional requirements that development teams can move on with confidence.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Be the person teams turn to for clarity on requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
- Prioritization Support: Help Product Owners weigh business value, risk, dependencies, and effort when sequencing the backlog.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Align Product Managers and other stakeholders around shared business goals and delivery plans.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Bridge business, technical, and QA conversations so everyone is building toward the same outcome.
- Ambiguity Resolution: Spot gaps, edge cases, and inconsistencies before they become rework, and resolve them with sound analytical judgment.
- Agile Participation: Show up fully in sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews, and retrospectives as a core part of the delivery team.
- Root Cause Analysis: Dig into issues to find what's really driving them and recommend process or system improvements.
- Standards & Best Practices: Keep business analysis work consistent and high-quality across templates, tools, and teams, and help raise the bar for others.
- QA Collaboration: Validate requirements with QA, review test cases, and confirm delivered functionality actually meets the business need.
- 4 years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, or an equivalent role within a technology product or services organization.
- A demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and document functional requirements independently, with minimal hand-holding.
- Experience leading or significantly contributing to backlog refinement on cross-functional teams, including writing detailed user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Proficiency with Agile tools and process documentation (process flows, data mapping, use case modeling) used as a matter of course, not a stretch.
- Solid customer-facing communication skills, including experience navigating sensitive o high-visibility conversations.
- Strong analytical instincts: you're comfortable sitting with ambiguity long enough to find the actual root cause.
- Have mentored or informally guided less experienced analysis or be ready to start doing so.
- Have worked specifically in gov tech, civic tech, or another regulated / public-sector environment.
- Bring exposure to e-commerce, ticketing, or reservation systems where transaction volume and edge cases matter.
- Have experience standing up or improving BA standards and templates for a growing team.
- You want fully scoped, unambiguous tickets handed to you. A meaningful part of this job is creating clarity where there isn't any yet.
- You'd rather stay heads-down in documentation than spend real time in stakeholder conversations. This role lives at the table, not just behind the BRD.
- You need a large, established BA practice to plug into. You'll be helping shape what “good” looks like here, not just following an existing playbook.
- Mission doesn't matter to you. If “conservation funding” and “government services people actually want to use” don't mean anything to you, you'll be bored here.
- Fully remote work environment with flexibility and autonomy.
- Work on high-impact, high-volume transaction systems.
- Influence how financial systems and processes are designed delivered.
- Collaborate with teams solving complex, real-world problems.
- Be part of a culture that values ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement.
- Base salary range: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 based on the skills, qualifications, and experience the selected candidate brings, positioned to reflect a strong Staff II or an early Senior I.
- Health insurance options, including plans fully covered for employees.
- Vision and dental coverage options.
- Flexible paid time off (PTO).
- Paid holidays.
- 401(k) with company match.
- Parental leave benefits.
- Life and disability insurance.
- Professional development support.
