Qualifications:
- Willing and able to be trained in the following areas, basic nutrition, sanitation, and use of equipment
- Able to work in an efficient, courteous, and cooperative manner with the staff and student population
- Able to communicate positively, politely, and effectively in a team environment
- Able to follow instructions
- Possess the ability to stand, reach, lift, carry, kneel, climb, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Able to stand or walk 100% of the workday
Reports to: Kitchen manager, Assistant Director and Director of School Nutrition
Job Goal: To support the kitchen manager in maintaining an atmosphere that is positive and welcoming.
Performance Responsibilities:
- The Food Service Worker is responsible for all assigned aspects of meal production, service, sanitation, and safety.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines:
- Ensure that all food, dry goods, and chemicals are handled and stored appropriately
- Date, rotate, and discard all appropriate food items
- Ensure that the kitchen and cafeteria are sanitized and organized
- Make sure that all equipment, dishware, and utensils are sanitized
- Use proper food handling techniques:
- Use appropriate hand-washing methods, gloves, and hair restraints as needed
- Monitor the temperature of food as it passes through the flow of storage, production, service, and transportation
- Serve students and staff from the cafeteria counter
- Washes used trays and dishes from the kitchen and cafeteria
- Loads and unloads dish machines
- Checks dish machine operation and promptly reports any technical/performance issues
- Maintains sanitation and temperature logs
- Assists in the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the kitchen area
- Assist in end-of-day cleanup, including but not limited to washing/sanitizing pots, pans, dishes, silverware, tables, and all other equipment as necessary
- Other reasonable duties as assigned by the kitchen manager and/or director
