Brainerd Hills Veterinary Hospital is looking for a dependable, hardworking, and compassionate Kennel Technician / Veterinary Assistant to join our growing veterinary team. This position is ideal for someone who loves working with animals, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and is interested in gaining hands-on experience in veterinary medicine.
As a Kennel Technician / Veterinary Assistant, you will play an important role in providing excellent care to our patients and helping keep our hospital running smoothly. Responsibilities may include assisting veterinarians and veterinary staff, caring for hospitalized and boarding pets, maintaining a clean and organized facility, and providing compassionate attention to every animal in our care.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for hospitalized and boarding animals, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and monitoring.
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, treatment areas, exam rooms, and other areas of the hospital.
- Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments.
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary staff with patient restraint, treatments, procedures, and patient care.
- Assist with preparing patients for examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
- Monitor patients and report changes in appetite, attitude, behavior, or condition to the veterinary team.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked hospital.
- Assist with laundry, dishes, waste disposal, and other daily hospital duties.
- Provide compassionate and professional care to pets and excellent customer service to their owners.
- Follow hospital protocols for animal handling, sanitation, safety, and patient care.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on experience and training.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a genuine love for animals and a strong interest in veterinary medicine.
- Be dependable, punctual, responsible, and able to work well as part of a team.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Be able to safely lift and handle animals of varying sizes.
- Be willing to perform cleaning and physical labor as part of daily responsibilities.
- Have strong communication and organizational skills.
- Be able to follow instructions and pay close attention to detail.
- Be comfortable working around animals that may be nervous, fearful, sick, or occasionally difficult to handle.
- Be available to work some weekends and holidays as needed.
Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, kennel, grooming facility, or other animal-care setting is preferred but not required for the right candidate. We are willing to train someone who is motivated, dependable, eager to learn, and passionate about animal care.
