Position: Networking/Telecommunications Technician
Department: Networking and Communications Systems
Reports to: Director of Infrastructure and Communication Services
Appointment: Full-Time; 40 hours per week
Pay Rate: $24.04 - $26.44 per hour
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support voice and data communications networks; perform first-tier installation, testing and maintenance on telephone system, and voice mail system.
- Maintain and test copper and fiber optic cables, termination panels and outlets.
- Program telephone lines; troubleshoot and repair service problems or escalate them to engineers.
- Experience with a ticketing system.
- Support network engineers by providing troubleshooting; assist with installing network and power equipment in communications closets; assist with installing Wireless Access Points.
- Ability to maintain communications closet to industry standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of experience in a technical position
- One year closely-related work experience mandatory
- Experience with telecommunications and networking equipment
- Cable installation and repair experience mandatory
- Experience operating cable, fiber, networking and wireless testing equipment
- Experience and familiarity with an enterprise PBX
- Familiarity with construction industry standards and practices
- Basic working knowledge of network switches
- Ability and willingness to learn additional skills as needed
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Four year technical degree preferred
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation; working with tools, telephones, computers, etc.; independently handle minimum 50 pounds; work environment is indoor office, outdoor areas including construction sites, wiring closets, and building crawl spaces/work areas.
