Duties And Responsibilities
Speech Teacher Assistant provides direct service to students at various school sites under the direction of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist . Follows and implements documented lesson plans; documents student progress toward meeting established goals and reports the information to therapists . Prepares therapy materials for use in therapy activities; assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts. Observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapists; assists in maintaining appropriate behavior between activities; prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, word lists, and other therapy related items.
Knowledge Of
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Instructional materials, and procedures; normal speech and language development and language disorders . English , punctuation, spelling, and grammar; basic math skills; routine office procedures and recordkeeping; standard software applications including IPad applications.
Skill And Ability To
Deal effectively with attitudes and behaviors of students; provide effective implementation of therapy objectives; interact and communicate effectively with children and school staff . Work independently with minimal supervision; Communicate effectively in oral and written form; react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs; organize and prioritize work; effectively carry out written and oral instructions; maintain cooperative work relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with special needs children is desirable.
Associate of arts degree in speech-language SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred.
