SUMMARY

To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability to express himself creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the pupil's interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches District approved curriculum.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that is aligned to the common core state standards, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that that differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists.
  • Evaluates academic and social emotional growth of students, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates student progress to appropriate sources (students, parents, and staff).
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Remain available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences.
  • Perform all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by Building Administrator or Superintendent.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, and art history, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
  • Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  • Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils' work for the school and the community.
  • Maintains professional competence through in service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching license for the particular position as required by the State.
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.

SCHEDULING

The classroom teacher’s schedule is subject to change with district demands in compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
