Bradford House Historical Association – Part-time Season Docent
A docent at the Bradford House Museum provides guided tours of the museum, the gardens, and the outdoor kitchen cabin. A docent must dress in 18th century period attire (provided by the BHHA). Additionally, docents work on our special events such as Homeschoolers Day, k-12 field trips, community days, and the Whiskey Rebellion Festival.
Logistics:
• Workdays – every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and two Saturdays a month.
• Work Hours – 9:45 am to 4:15 pm. On average the docent will work 19 hours a week.
• Season – April through November. There may be some opportunities to work December through March but not guaranteed hours.
• Work Location – 175 S Main Street, Braford House Museum.
• On-site parking is available.
• Lunch options – you may pack a lunch, there is a microwave and refrigerator on-site, or there are many local restaurants close-by.
HR Matters:
• Age restriction - Must be at least 21 years of age – the BHHA has a two-person safety rule that requires at least one person in the Museum to be an adult.
• Pay - $12 an hour for the first year, then $15 an hour the following years
• Supervisor – all the docents report to the Executive Director. Additionally, you may be asked to do something by one of our board of directors.
• There are no medical benefits, paid time off or retirement benefits.
• Vacations are permitted, if scheduled with the Executive Director.
• Child Abuse Clearances are required. The BHHA will pay for them.
• A signed docent contract is required annually.
• A code of conduct inclusive of a Conflict of Interest is required annually.
• The Executive Director will provide an annual review at the end of each year.
• As a nationally accredited museum through the American Alliance of Museums, all the necessary protocols, safety measures and policies are in place at the BHHA.
Training:
• On-site training is essential. In the beginning, you will shadow other docents.
• Written training materials include a docent manual and a docent training powerpoint.
