About the Role:
The Behavioral Health Technician at Woodland Recovery Center plays a critical role in supporting individuals with chemical dependency, mental health, and emotional challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. This position focuses on ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various care settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during behavioral health emergencies. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate safety checks/rounding to ensure continuity of care. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and supporting the multidisciplinary team in delivering comprehensive behavioral health services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher in a related field preferred.
- Certification or training in behavioral health, crisis intervention, or related clinical areas.
- Experience in safety checks and observation of patients within a mental health or healthcare setting.
- Ability to perform crisis management protocols effectively.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children and adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare documentation software.
- Additional training or certification in mental health counseling or psychiatric technician programs.
- Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health disorders, including those with substance abuse disorder and serious emotional disturbance.
- Implement crisis intervention techniques and manage behavioral emergencies to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Maintain thorough and accurate rounding documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals.
The required skills such as maintaining accurate records are essential for tracking patient progress and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are utilized daily to respond promptly and effectively to behavioral emergencies, ensuring safety and stability. Knowledge of mental health conditions and patient care techniques supports compassionate and effective interaction with individuals facing emotional and psychological challenges. Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and additional certifications enhance efficiency and broaden the technician's ability to provide comprehensive care and support discharge planning.
