What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Cook position at Bradford Elementary School?
Bradford Elementary School in Bradford, VT is looking for a head cook with previous food service experience, exceptional time-management skills, and a good sense of organization. A willingness to participate as part of a team and jump in as needed is a must. A sense of humor is an important part of supporting one another and our students in this busy elementary school setting. This position follows the school calendar with a 178 day work schedule that follows students days.
The head cook prepares and cooks large quantities of meals in the school cafeteria setting, in compliance with food safety protocols and determined weekly menu. Detailed work activities include cutting or processing raw foods, preparing daily entrees, serving meals when needed, maintaining the cleanliness of food preparation areas, facilities, and equipment, and cleaning tableware and large-scale cooking equipment.
Compensation:
This position currently pays between $18.72 and $28.22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined by the district’s collective bargaining agreement, which considers factors such as degree level and years of service. The 26-27 school year collective bargaining agreement has not been ratified. Compensation amounts are pending.
Prior experience with commercial cooking equipment is beneficial, along with confidence in cooking yields, standardized recipes, and inventory control. Willingness to be Serve-Safe Certified is required. This position works closely with the school Food Service Director for the properly motivated individual.
