Position Summary:
The Bradford Sports United Athletic Director manages all sports and athletic activities in the City of Starke and Bradford County. This includes scheduling, budgeting, fund raising, facility oversight, and managing staff and volunteers to provide diverse recreational opportunities for all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management: Plan, organize, and direct a wide range of athletic programs and leagues including Youth Sports, Adult Leagues, and Tournaments. Responsibilities include scheduling, logistics, marketing, and operations of all activities.
- Personnel Supervision: Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise full and part time staff, coaches, and volunteers; negotiate and manage contracts for vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, and sponsors.
- Policy and Safety: Ensure all events comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards. Ensure all events comply with league and organizational regulations.
- Community Relations: Act as a liaison with local schools, community groups, and the public to promote and improve programs.
Facility Management
- Facilities and Equipment: Coordinate the maintenance, scheduling, and safety of fields and equipment. This includes the hands-on preparation of fields or facilities for events.
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Administration and Budget: Develop and manage the athletic budget, handle purchasing, secure sponsorship, and maintain detailed records.
- Maintain financial records, submit monthly reports, and support external audits when required.
- Develop fundraising strategies and apply for relevant grants and/or state funding.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Serve as the public spokesperson for Bradford Sports United.
- Promote sports through media outlets, social media, and community outreach.
- Foster partnerships with schools and local businesses.
Volunteer & Staff Coordination
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise full and part time staff, coaches, and volunteers; negotiate and manage contracts for vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, and sponsors.
- Work with the Bradford Sports United Board and community members to ensure successful event execution.
- Ensure all staff and volunteers follow safety procedures and customer service best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, Sports Administration or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience: 3 years in athletic program administration or coordination.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball and various sports rules, safety protocols, and league management software or systems.
- Skills:
- Fundraising and sponsor development.
o Budgeting and financial reporting knowledge.
o Social media, community engagement, public relations.
o Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and public speaking abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital marketing tools.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to cover events.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily on-site at Edwards Road Park and Thomas Street Park in Starke, Florida.
- Includes outdoor work in varied weather conditions.
- Requires physical ability to maintain fields, lift up to 40 lbs., and perform basic maintenance oversight.
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience. This is a 1099 independent contractor role. Annual performance will be reviewed with contract renewal contingent on meeting key financial and operational benchmarks.
