BQ Technologies, a leading provider of products and services for the Identification and Payment Industries has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Support Technician.
The Laboratory Support Technician works as part of a support team of laboratory professionals within BQ Technologies, an ISO 17025:2017 certified independent test laboratory for the payments, identification and secured access industries. The Laboratory Support Technician works with a global customer base and requires a strong customer focus and effective oral and written communication skills. The role is responsible for preventative maintenance and calibration of laboratory test equipment. Performs electrical, chemical, and material physical properties testing and documents test data and test attributes for test reports. Assists in writing summary reports; provides customer support and training; works with internal and external stakeholders to identify testing requirements; determines potential sources of test failures; and provides instruction on product use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs compliant and accurate environmental simulation, mechanical, electrical testing on customer payment, identity or access control cards and devices by using ISO, CQM, ANSI, special, and other custom standards.
- Test Physical and chemical properties of customer supplied materials, analyzes results and determines compliance to established standards.
- Maintains less than 5% reworks of generated testing logs by paying close attention to detail.
- Ability to read, understand, follow and comply with written GI’s (general instructions), test specifications and related test standards and perform test methods accurately according to accepted protocol.
- Produces test cards that meet customer requirements for evaluation of certain electrical or encoding requirements accurately and with high quality.
- Performs basic calibration of test equipment with the help of the Lead Laboratory Technician.
- Works with various laboratory equipment including; electronic measuring probes, testing apparatus, voltage and current meters, test chambers, chemical hoods, and measurement equipment.
- Maintains a clean work space and high accuracy testing in the laboratory to 5S standards.
- Recommends changes to processes and procedures to increase efficiency and quality.
- Reviews test reports and outside external testing as needed.
- Generates data analysis and graphical determination of testing.
- Participates in the proficiency testing rotation process.
- Crosstrain in other areas of manufacturing and assembly
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Does not supervise any employees. Directed and supervised by the Manager of Laboratory Operations but also receives technical direction through the Vice President of Technology and the Lead Laboratory Technician.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE. Associates (A. A.) or equivalent from a from a two-year college, university or technical school; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Study and/or experience in a technical engineering, physical properties, or electronics test laboratory, or related field is preferred but not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and highly technical procedures/documents. Ability to follow technical procedures and standards for testing.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. High Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry as well as trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percents, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING SKILLS. Critical thinking skills and ability to solve practical problems under guidance of management and other team members.
COMPUTER SKILLS. Ability to use Microsoft Windows 10 or higher & MS Office 2019 or higher software including Word, Teams, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to use spreadsheets of medium to high complexity, including use of various formulas.
