Solar Engineer

BPi is looking for somebody with a proven track record in commercial solar designs. The right individual must be a self-starter, articulate, detail-oriented, energetic, able to take initiative and problem-solve while working in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Hybrid/Remote (This position requires travel)

Reports to: VP Engineering

Employment Type: Full-Time (08:00-17:00) Monday - Friday (PST)

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and approve electrical and structural designs for photovoltaic projects, ensuring that designs comply with contractual obligations and customer needs.
• Respond to contractor submittals, AHJ reviews, and RFIs according to project requirements, codes, client goals, and BPi’s business interests.
• Coordinate with Site Assessors, Project Management, and Sales teams to complete designs meeting customers’ expectations with strict deadlines.
• Generate bill of materials for the projects, including modules, racking, inverters, RSD’s, switchgear, monitoring hardware, batteries, and associated equipment, and any other relevant project procurement items.
• Material procurement includes quantity take-offs, coordination with the purchasing team, and tracking tools to ensure products are delivered on schedule, including on-site material takes and coordination as needed.
• Routine (in-person) quality control and assurance inspections on-site with associated reporting.
• Staff final utility and AHJ inspections as needed.
• Ensure as-built conditions and punch list items for project completion get captured.
• Delegate project completion tasks to other engineering team members.
• Utilize software systems to record the progress of various tasks.
• Always demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior.

Qualifications and Experience:

• NABCEP PV Design Specialist (PVDS) or NABCEP Installation Professional (PVIP) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• Associate’s degree in an engineering-related field minimum (bachelor’s preferred).

Preferred Skills:

• 2-4 years’ design experience in commercial electric solar and battery projects.
• Experience maintaining and improving design processes.
• Analytical/critical thinking/acute attention to detail.
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
