Position Summary:

The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist independently performs comprehensive sleep disorder testing and associated patient care activities, including polysomnography (PSG), electroencephalogram (EEG) testing, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) setup and support, patient education, scoring, and documentation. This role applies clinical and technical expertise to support accurate diagnostic testing, patient safety, and quality patient outcomes. The position collaborates with providers and Sleep Center leadership to support regulatory compliance, operational workflow, and continuity of care across Sleep Center operations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform polysomnography (PSG) testing and associated patient care activities.

Preferred:

  • Two (2) years of sleep disorder testing experience or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Experience performing pediatric sleep studies.
  • Current Montana Respiratory Therapist licensure.

Essential Job Functions: In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Independently performs comprehensive polysomnography (PSG) testing and physiologic monitoring.
  • Scores and evaluates polysomnograms in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines and departmental standards.
  • Performs routine electroencephalogram (EEG) testing and associated documentation as applicable to department operations.
  • Assists patients with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) setup, mask fitting, therapy education, and compliance support.
  • Educates patients and families regarding sleep testing procedures, equipment, and therapy expectations.
  • Troubleshoots routine equipment, monitoring, technical, and patient care concerns.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation and testing records.
  • Collaborates with providers and department leadership to support quality patient care and continuity of services.
  • Supports departmental regulatory readiness, accreditation standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Participates in workflow improvement and operational support activities.
  • Assists with orientation and support of trainees or new staff as assigned.

Schedule Requirements

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

  • Vision (Continuously): Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures and to read computer screens, printed materials, and handwritten materials.
  • Cognitive Skills (Continuously): Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
  • Exposures (Continuously): Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed. Various chemicals and medications are used in healthcare settings. Job tasks may involve handling cleaning products, disinfectants, and other substances. Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
