Position Summary:
Provides inpatient clinical nutrition services to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital patients, specifically but not limited to neonatal intensive care unit, nursery, and inpatient pediatrics. Completes nutrition assessments and other services per policy. Manages NICU milk room. Assists with preparation of milk for NICU patients as needed Attends meetings and care conferences, and provides input regarding all aspects of clinical nutrition care, including participation in NICU rounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Montana Licensure (Nutritionist) required within 30 days of hire (and before beginning direct patient care)
  • Registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • 2 years clinical pediatric/NICU nutrition experience
  • Successful completion of ADA/CDR approved internship - Registration Eligible
Preferred
  • MS in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Board certified by CDR as a specialist in pediatric nutrition (CSP)
Essential Job Functions:
In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
  • Conducts and documents nutrition screens, assessments and consults including nutrition support and critical care MNT for inpatients of BDHS.
  • Provides nutrition education to patients and families.
  • Participates as liaison between other patient service departments and food services.
  • Communicates patient nutrition needs to other clinical departments and providers.
  • Manages the milk room (ordering donor milk, supplies, formula), quality oversight of policies and procedures for mixing milk, handling milk, and infection control.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary care conferences and hospital committees as assigned.
  • Bills for professional services.
  • Works with department manager on establishing standards of care, policy and procedures.
  • Coordinates patient care with outside agencies, clinics and other health care professionals.
  • Completes monthly QI monitors and implements actions for improvement.
  • Provides in-service training for nursing and other departments as requested.
  • Mentors Students and organizing work experiences.
  • Participates in community education activities.
  • Monitors performance and in-services of Menu Representative as requested.
  • Participate and assists with coordination of on-call responsibilities.

Schedule Requirements
  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

  • Exposures (Continuously): Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed. Various chemicals and medications are used in healthcare settings. Job tasks may involve handling cleaning products, disinfectants, and other substances. Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
