Position Summary:

The Imaging Care Technician supports registered technologists by assisting with patient preparation, imaging workflow, and procedure support for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), contrast-enhanced mammography, breast biopsies, and other assigned imaging studies. This role helps ensure safe, efficient patient care by coordinating check-in, basic information review, room turnover, specimen handling, and discharge activities within scope of practice. The Imaging Care Technician contributes to department operations by supporting exam readiness, order review, and timely communication with patients and care team members.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire.

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of healthcare, radiology, imaging, or medical field experience.
  • Certification or licensure in a medical-related field.
  • Formal healthcare education or training through an accredited program.

Essential Job Functions: In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.

  • Assists technologists and radiologists with patient preparation, exam setup, imaging studies, interventional procedures as assigned.
  • Prepares exam rooms, sterile trays, biopsy equipment, specimens, and ancillary equipment within scope of practice and department procedure.
  • Rooms patients, provides dressing and exam instructions, supports patient pre-screening, and confirms basic patient information prior to imaging studies.
  • Escorts and transports patients, provides comfort during procedures, and supervises patients post-procedure as needed.
  • Participates in procedures using proper sterile techniques when required and documents assigned patient care activities, events, and discharge instructions.
  • Assists with emergency response or adverse patient events within scope of practice and according to department procedure.
  • Reviews orders, laboratory results, and pharmacy review status prior to appointments and assists with obtaining or correcting missing information when needed.
  • Completes and verifies order information for billing, interpretation, and the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Performs patient registration, check-in, follow-up appointment support, and same-day add-on scheduling or rescheduling as assigned.
  • Completes pre-procedure calls, post-procedure calls, and scheduling calls to support patient readiness and department workflow.

Schedule Requirements

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs.

  • Exposures (Continuously): Bloodborne pathogens, such as blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Radiation in settings where medical imaging procedures are performed. Various chemicals and medications are used in healthcare settings. Job tasks may involve handling cleaning products, disinfectants, and other substances. Infectious diseases are caused by contact with patients in areas that may have contagious illnesses. Emotionally challenging situations, such as dealing with distressed patients or difficult family interactions.
