What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Guard position at BOYSVILLE INC?

The primary responsibility of the Lifeguard is to provide coverage of the pool area during scheduled open times. The pool opens Memorial Day and closes the weekend before school starts. The Lifeguard will maintain the safety of pool everyone inside the pool fence, while communicating and enforcing pool regulations and rules in a professional manner. The pool rules and regulations are posted at the pool for all to see. Report any potential hazardous issues of the pool area to the Recreation Coordinator. The Lifeguard is not responsible for managing children’s behaviors, he/she will report any and all behavioral problems to the child care staff that are present at the pool with their children. Any continual unsafe behaviors, inside the fence, will be reported to the Recreation Coordinator.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepares the pool and the pool area for the day/evening. This includes ensuring that there is a first-aid kit, sunscreen, insect repellent, ear drops, eye drops, and ear plugs; getting the umbrellas up; getting the toys and life jackets out; cleaning the pool deck area; putting away toys a life jackets; cleaning the restrooms; and emptying the trash
- Enforce pool rules and watch for any unsafe conditions with EVERYONE inside the fence
- Monitor weather conditions closely to ensure safety of swimmers
- Must maintain a good working relationship with the Recreation Coordinator and Boysville staff in order to accomplish objectives

- Monitors all activity inside the fence to ensure safety and compliance with rules of the agency
- Models appropriate behavior for youth (maintains positive, mature behavior; follows through on commitments and model’s compliance with rules; consistently and fairly applies rules)
- Certified Lifeguard (Required)
- Must have H.S. diploma or GED, (Negotiable)
- Must possess excellent communication, organization and time management skills
- Must exhibit behavior that demonstrates cultural diversity and sensitivity (See Corporate Policy #2103)
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Ability to read, write and converse in English
- Ability to communicate with staff, residents, volunteers, visitors and/or Board Members
- Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, prolonged sitting/standing
