GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
The Student Advisor performs direct professional and support services to ensure the care, security, and overall well-being of students under their supervision. This position is responsible for providing guidance in post-graduation planning, goal setting, character development, and mentoring. The Student Advisor advocates for the student’s best interests and works under the general supervision of the Program Director.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Coordinates the functioning and collaboration of the Service Team.
- Plans, documents, and leads the development and implementation of each Individualized Student Plan, ensuring alignment with the student’s strengths and potential.
- Coordinates and supports post-graduation planning, including scholastic testing, meetings with professionals, career exploration, college tours, workforce opportunities, and trade pathways.
- Maintains thorough documentation of each student’s progress toward individualized goals and supports character-building growth.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for parents, guardians, and other invested parties.
- Collaborates closely with the Medical Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and transport students to medical appointments.
- Works with staff to coordinate transportation needs during holidays and breaks.
- Assists staff in understanding student needs to support positive adjustment to group living.
- Ensures that the philosophy, mission, and policies of Boys Home of Virginia are upheld in all practices.
- Assists students and families in maintaining healthy relationships and preparing for future care planning.
- Supports students in building interpersonal skills and strengthening their ability to function productively within various relationships.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to supervise students in the cottage when needed.
Pay: $34,000.00 - $37,000.00 per year
