Role Description The Life Safety Officer part time role, on-site role based in Bridgeport, CT & Milford, CT This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining a safe physical environment across the facility, including conducting regular safety inspections, checking equipment, and ensuring compliance with fire, health, and building codes. The Life Safety Officer will develop and update safety procedures, assist with emergency preparedness plans, and coordinate drills such as fire and evacuation exercises. Daily responsibilities include documenting safety findings, reporting hazards, following up on corrective actions, and collaborating with program staff and leadership to promote a culture of safety for children, adolescents, families, and employees. The role may also involve providing safety training, supporting incident response, and liaising with external safety and regulatory agencies when needed.
Qualifications
Shift is Monday & Wednesday 4pm-8pm in Bridgeport, Sunday 9am-5:30pm in Milford. 16hrs weekly
- Knowledge of life safety codes, fire safety standards, and building safety regulations, with the ability to apply them in a residential and educational setting.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations, and maintaining accurate safety documentation and reports.
- Ability to develop, implement, and update safety policies, emergency plans, and drills, including fire, lockdown, and evacuation procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to train staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and interact respectfully with youth and families.
- Basic technical skills for operating and checking safety-related systems and equipment (e.g., alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting), with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively in emergencies or high-stress situations.
- Prior experience in human services, healthcare, education, or residential programs serving children and adolescents is highly beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in safety, security, fire protection, or related fields is preferred.
